Vacation

We took our first vacation as a family last week, booking a last second trip to Naples.  Given that Evelyn is definitely 'her mother's daughter' we figured she'd love to lounge in the nice May Florida sun.  We quickly discovered packing for three is a little more challenging than packing for two.  Bottles, infant sunscreen, clothes, burp clothes, more clothes, a couple swimsuits, etc, etc.  We were smart enough to realize it was best to stop at  Walgreens in Naples to buy diapers and formula, we were not smart enough to know you don't pack your car seat base in a suitcase and try to bring it with you; luckily we didn't actually try, instead consulted w/ a few 'experts' who cleared things up for us...and you're welcome all parents that haven't flown with your kids yet, now you know not to try and bring the car seat base and you never have to ask someone.

Chilling

We booked the 7am flight last Tuesday, Evelyn takes WAY better naps in the morning so if we had a chance to not be 'those parents' this was it.  Evelyn was asleep when the pilot got the plane started down the runaway, K and I looked at each other w/ an understood 'here we go'.  Evelyn barely made a peep all the way to Charlotte, she ate between flights and went right back to sleep en route to Ft. Myers.  Evelyn Spytek...A+ on your first flights girl.

A sunset walk on the beach
Getting ready for a swim

The weather in Naples was fantastic but the company was better.  Just the 3 of us, sleeping in together, lounging by the pool, walks on the beach, cocktails for the adults.  Evie and I spent most of the time laying under the umbrella so K could get some much needed sun.  We took Evie for her first swim, I'd say she tolerated it, but we took that as a win, at least she didn't hate it.  All in all, it was exactly the kind of trip we needed.

After 3 nights we headed back to the airport, made it thru security w/ no issues and Evelyn equaled her performance from Tuesday on the way back to Cleveland.  She certainly made a strong case to go with us when ever we fly somewhere.

Traveling with an infant was different for sure, but it was a wonderful 'different' and we look forward to the many more trips that are sure to come.

As good as it gets

  1. Sounds like you had a great trip. Please think about coming to see Aunt Kate and Uncle Dan at the Jersey shore. You have a standing invitation.
    Much love,

  3. Come back to Naples in January. We have 3 bedrooms and lots of baby "stuff" and we know where to rent the rest. Hopefully Jeff and Amy could come at the same time . . . and Nana Nancy could watch the three little ones. Thinking of you always. Nancy -- and Dick too.
