Peace of Mind

Last weekend John and I went out to Breckenridge ('Breck') for an adult weekend with a few of our close friends. We stayed at a beautiful condo at the base of the mountain (thank you, thank you Roberts' family!) and enjoyed some hiking, dining, and hot tubbing. It was two days of pure bliss.

On Sunday, we went to the Broncos game vs. the Eagles and had a chance to see some old + new friends, and a Broncos victory! It was a wonderful weekend, exactly what we needed.

Unfortunately back in Cleveland, Ms. Evelyn was developing a cold/virus which seemingly upped the frequency of her seizures. I flew back Monday AM, and my mother had already taken her to the Clinic main campus for an outpatient neuro appointment where the recommendation was to admit Evie once again.

Evelyn was in the hospital until Wednesday PM, where she endured routine pokes and prodding, an ultrasound of her abdomen, an echo cardiogram of her heart, and an EEG to measure brain activity, amongst other things. We decided to start Evelyn on a steroid via intramuscular injection to help stop her seizure activity. We were trained to give the injection at home, and home nursing will be stopping by 3x/week to check her blood pressure throughout the duration of this medication. The steroid is a short-term solution, and we should know in the next 2 weeks whether or not it has any effect (via another EEG). From what have we heard/read thus far, there is a 50% success rate. If this does not work, we will try something else.

Again our goal is to completely stop her seizures. There is nothing more frustrating or upsetting than the feeling of utter hopelessness we have experienced so many times throughout the last 6+ months. And as we've said from the beginning, we will stop at nothing to help Ms. Evelyn feel good and maintain the highest quality of life possible.

Just look how chill she is!

She teaches me so many things everyday. I've never loved so unconditionally, so fearlessly. I'm beyond thankful for each and every moment I get to spend with sweet Evie; that's our girl.
