Sound

One huge lesson Evelyn Grace has taught us is that just because a person can't do something on their own, something that is supposed to come naturally; does not mean that we can't do something to change that.

CMV took Evelyn's ability to hear as most of you reading this know. All the testing we've done up to this point has continually indicated that she has profound bilateral hearing loss; only able to hear very loud noises that are at low frequencies. She has not heard our voices, the dogs bark, the doorbell ring or the music we play in the house daily. All things that I took for granted until she came into my life.

What CMV did not take from Evelyn, from Kristen, or from me is our sense of hope or our need to simply do something.  In that light, Evelyn had surgery yesterday and received a Cochlear device behind her left ear. The surgery was successful and preliminary tests indicate that sound is getting through and her brain is reacting to it. All huge positives for Evie.

Over the next two weeks we have several appointments to make sure all is well with the implant; the most exciting appointment is May 28th when we activate the Cochlear device & officially give Evelyn the gift of sound.

There's still a long road ahead, but we are extremely fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to do this for our daughter as well as hopeful that this will open up a whole new window into the world that she's been denied up until this point.

Grace.
