Evelyn was delivered via a scheduled c-section (much to Kristen's delight - she actually preferred this) and weighed 3 lbs 14 oz. What a little peanut! She was also 17 inches in length; long and lean just like her mother. Evie of course made her dad tear up immediately, and mom probably would've cried too if it wasn't for the 12 inch gash in her stomach and all of the drugs. Evelyn immediately cried, breathed on her own and scored a 9 on her Apgar test. Because she was small and 4 weeks early she was immediately taken to the NICU before we could take the normal delivery room family photo shoot. We expected this so we let the doctors do their thing.
Those of you who are parents understand the course of emotions that run through you when your first child is born, and the rest of you we hope are fortunate enough to very soon experience that joy. It's inexplicable and such a rush you almost have to remind yourself to breath. And that's how we felt with Evelyn, she is the most beautiful and precious thing either of us had ever and likely will ever see. Perfect in every way. Love at first sight...yes, but more accurately a sense of "I didn't know it was possible to love something this much."
